Time management! (Finding Time to Train)

Time management! (Finding Time to Train)

"Time is what we want most, but what we use the worst"

Time Management is hard. Especially with working 40+ hours a week, family commitments and all the other every day interruptions, which don't permit us to work towards our goals or even find time for training. Trust me I know. Working a full time job, a part time job and running a side business as well as finding time for family. Any excess time is somewhat a valuable commodity and to squeeze in hours of training each week can be difficult. But it is about finding a balance in life.

"Never get so busy making a living that your forget to make a life"

Here are some things that I have implemented in my life that have helped with time management and allowed time to focus on things I enjoy such as training with friends, spending time with family and working on Airofin.

1) Preparation

As they say "preparation prevents piss poor performance"

At the start of each day or the night before - make sure you have set out everything you need for the upcoming or next day. Whether that is getting your training kit out ready, or whether it is making a nutritious and healthy lunch to keep on track of your health kick etc. What ever it is, you are 90% more likely to achieve your goals if you are prepared to succeed. If you need to compile a list of things that you need to get done - do it! Write it down and make sure you have carried out all the necessary steps to be over prepared.

2) Do what you love

"Do what you love and you will not work a day in your life"

If you are doing what you love in life - you will find the time to do it. I know it is easier said than done. With bills to pay, families to take care of and "adult responsibilities" we know you cannot just quit everything and go on a 2 month cycling trip, unless you are seriously rich and don't like your family ;)  But after work and family time, do something that you love - if that is playing a team sport, working out in the gym or even going for a walk with your dog, get out there and do it. Don't waste that time watching TV and procrastinating, you only have a certain amount of hours in a day and in a week, use your time being productive doing things that you love, things that provide a two way relationship. So something that you get a true benefit, thats provides value in your life and something that releases endorphins for you.

3) Start Early

"Life is getting up an hour early to live an hour longer"

Starting an extra hour earlier than you usually would, gives you the opportunity to plan the day out and even tick some of the days tasks of the list. Getting in exercise before people have even got out of bed gives you a massive head start on the day. Life isn't about spending countless hours sleeping, yes rest is important but excessive sleep is also a bad thing for the body and productivity.

4) Schedule your Time

"The key is not to prioritise whats on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities

We have mentioned above about preparing and scheduling things in your day. But it is imperative to schedule things in order of importance. If you then finish the day having only finished and completed the most important things in that day then your day can be considered a success. Prioritise the most important things first. If everything in your day is of equal value schedule the things that you DON'T enjoy doing first, this way you will get these things done and will get to spend more time on the things that you do enjoy whilst having ticked off things you don't enjoy that needed to get done!

Remember balance is really important in life! Make sure you work towards your goals and manage time effectively.
